This project was inspired by the show Parks and Recreation and its many incredible quotes and colorful characters. My initial approach was to have the posters look as though they were designed by Leslie Knope and made from cut paper, but I eventually scrapped that to turn them into more standardized inspirational posters.

For these posters I wanted the humor to be bold and straightforward. If you don’t get the quote, you can laugh at the uncomfortably stern gaze of Ron Swanson plastered on a butt or Leslie Knope’s disturbingly intense enthusiasm for life staring you down from her favorite breakfast food.

For the designs of the characters on the posters I really wanted to make them recognizable as their actors on the show. Nick Offerman’s Ron Swanson has a strong brow and a thick mustache and he’s almost always looking disappointedly at his peers. Leslie Knope is the embodiment of id, on the other hand, and has an overbearing sense of fun and loyalty to friendship. Amy Poehler pulls this off with her incredible wide-eyed facial expressions.
