Enter the Fire Realm

This piece was inspired by a friend’s band and their song of the same name. That, along with the raw, unedited style of old punk rock posters, got me obsessed with the idea of creating a poster with as little digital work as possible.

This poster drew me out of my comfort zone entirely, as I had spent the majority of the last four years working entirely on my computer. I began with the illustration, allowing my hand to take me where it wanted to go. It was created with Micron pens and watercolor pencils: two materials I had very little experience with beforehand but learned a great deal about throughout the process. My hand lettering left me nervous, as it’s not something I had done much before, so I shifted my mindset to view the letters as doodles meant to fill the space first and then refined them to be legible through a few layers of sketching. The final image is a composite of these two pieces.
