The Country of the Blind
This book jacket was designed for a printing of H.G. Wells’ The Country of the Blind and other short stories. The illustration was done entirely in Procreate on the iPad Pro. Text and effects were added in Adobe Photoshop.

This project began with an idea for the illustration. When I read the Country of the Blind I was immediately interested in drawing someone holding the eyes of the protagonist with imagery similar to the grotesque Pale Man in Pan’s Labyrinth.

This illustration was a step out of my comfort zone with a focus on environmental elements and atmosphere rather than character. The island was a lot of fun to experiment with a variety of textures and blending methods on, and I loved creating a vibrant color-palette paired with the unsettling imagery of a pair of body-less eyes staring you down.
